Woman's Suspicious Death
Expired in Hospital While Her Husband Is in Jail
Mrs. Leon Sanoski, of 1146 Sycamore street, Camden, died in Cooper Hospital yesterday, under suspicious circumstances. Her husband is in the county jail. According to a statement made by County Physician Jones after he conducted the post-mortem the woman died from cirrhosis of the liver. He said he saw no marks or bruises on the body.
The woman was found by Captain Stanley and Overseer of the Poor Jefferis unconscious on the floor of her home last Wednesday. She was examined by City Physician Jackson and ordered sent to the hospital. At the hearing the next day the doctor, police captain and overseer testified that the woman's body was covered with bruises.
On Thursday Sanoski was taken to his wife's bedside. Her ante-mortem statement was taken by Assistant Prosecutor Wolverton. Mrs. Sanoski said that her husband beat her into insensibility on Monday night and that he beat her once a week for eight years.
