YOUTH RACES DEATH TO SEE MOTHER HERE C.C.C. Worker Coming From Coast After Woman Is Injured An East Camden youth, stationed at a C.C.C. Camp in Natches, Wash., yesterday was speeding east to reach the bedside of his mother, critically injured early Wednesday when she fell in her home. Edward J. Staepel, 19, of 1033 North Twenty-third street, is making the 3000 mile trip to Cooper Hospital where his mother, Mrs. Kathleen Staepel, 48, is near death from a fractured skull. Mrs. Staepel fell while getting out of bed. She was treated by Dr. E. W. Kauffman, of Twenty-third and River avenue, who later ordered her to the hospital when she lapsed into a coma. An X-ray revealed the fracture at the base of the brain. The victim is the wife of Robert C. Staepel who returned to work this week at the New York Shipyard. There are six other children in the family.
