Byron P. Cobb was born in Maryland in 1874. In the early 1900s, he entered marital bliss with Anna M. Capwell, and they welcomed a son, Byron Jr., around 1905. By 1920, the Cobb family had established their residence at 343 Royden Street in Camden, NJ. Byron Cobb, already engaged in the canvas business, specialized in crafting canvas awnings for homes and businesses at the northwest corner of 4th and Royden Streets. Widely known as the “Sun Doctor,” he extensively advertised his trade. Sometime between 1917 and 1922, he relocated his shop to 313 West Street.
According to the April 1930 census, Mr. and Mrs. Cobb were proud homeowners at 427 Benson Street.
After closing his independent shop, Byron Cobb Sr. continued working for another awning business in the 1930s. He peacefully passed away at his residence, 635 Pine Street, on January 19, 1938. His final resting place is at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken, NJ.
