John Martin Schreiber

John Martin Schreiber, better known as Martin Schrieber, moved to New Jersey in 1903 to work for the Public Service Corporation, the state's largest public transit company and an early predecessor of today's Transport of New Jersey. He earned recognition for his expertise as an engineer, designer, and manager of public transportation.

In 1938, journalist Dan McConnell wrote:

It was Martin Schreiber who planned and designed those comfortable and smooth-riding All-Service trackless trolley buses. Yes, Martin, we remember those old-time Crosstown trolley cars.

Schreiber played a key role in the transition from streetcars to trackless trolleys, and later in integrating buses while phasing out South Jersey's trolley system. During the 1920s and 1930s, he also served as manager of the Southern Division of the Public Service Corporation.
