John Paul Gryckiewicz (1918–2006) served 40 years with the Camden Fire Department, rising to captain of Engine Company 6, and was decorated for heroism in multiple rescues. A World War II Navy veteran, he served as a chief machinist mate aboard the Camden-built USS South Dakota.
Atlanta Road runs north to south through the Fairview section of Camden, from Olympia Road to Alabama Road, paralleling Mount Ephraim Avenue. The northern segment (North Atlanta Road) ends at Collings Road; the southern segment (South Atlanta Road) continues to Alabama Road.
Forty-First Street runs from Jersey Avenue to Poplar Avenue in East Camden, crossing Westfield Avenue and High Street, then picks up again at Federal Street for one block to Myrtle Avenue.
Thirty-Sixth Street runs from the Delaware River south, across River Road, to Federal Street, and forms Camden's northern border with Pennsauken Township at intervals along its length. It became part of Camden when Stockton Township was annexed in 1899, and had been known in Pennsauken as Cove Avenue into the 1890s.
34th Street runs from the Delaware River south to Highland Avenue at the Pennsauken border. It is North 34th Street above Federal and South 34th below.
Jersey Avenue runs northeast from North 36th Street in East Camden to the city limits at North 42nd Street, with no houses or businesses along its length.
Division Street runs across South Camden. In 1997, a portion of the street was renamed Ramona Gonzalez Street to honor a community leader; the remainder continues to be known as Division Street.
Federal Street, originally called Joseph Cooper's Lane, is one of the primary east-west streets in Camden, running from the Delaware River waterfront through Stockton Township to Mount Holly. The intersection of Federal Street and Broadway is considered the center of center city Camden.

An electrical fire damaged a second-floor apartment at 139 North 36th Street, displacing a family of four. Camden firefighters contained the blaze to the front bedroom in 14 minutes; no injuries were reported. Working smoke detectors alerted occupants in time.
Mrs. Girlene Garrett and her six children escaped a two-alarm fire that gutted their home at 832 North 3rd Street in August 1968; Acting Battalion Chief John Gryckiewicz and Hoseman Edmund Gorczynski were treated at Cooper Hospital for burns.
A two-alarm fire tore through the Cartun Hardware Store warehouse at 14 South 35th Street on the night of December 21, 1961, fed by an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 gallons of paint. One Engine Company 11 hoseman was hurt, and the alarm was sounded by a teenager who spotted the smoke while listening to Christmas carols outdoors.
Julius L. Hubert, 62, a lifelong resident of Camden and a 32-year employee of the Public Service gas plant, died at his home, 1199 North 36th Street. He was survived by his widow Marian, two sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren.
Stanley Skabicki, 77, died at his home, 1051 North 36th Street. Born in Lithuania, he resided in Camden for more than 50 years and was a member of the National Lithuanian Beneficial Club. Survived by three sons and a daughter.
Mrs. Anna E. Boulton died at her home, 949 North 36th Street. A native of Philadelphia, she had lived in Cramer Hill for a year. Survived by her husband Edgar S. Boulton, three daughters, a son, a sister, and five grandchildren.
James Taylor, 71, a retired painter and native of Philadelphia, died at his home, 119 North Thirty-sixth Street, after a brief illness. Survived by his widow, Louise. Funeral services held at the home.
Pvt. Henry G. C. Yip, 18, of 5 South Thirty-sixth Street, is stationed at Camp Wheeler, Georgia. Of Chinese ancestry, he enlisted a year before being called to service in February 1944. His father is a well-known Camden restaurateur.
Thomas W. Burnside, 81, husband of the late Louisa S. Burnside, died June 28, 1941. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the home of L. D. Horner, 36th and Westfield Ave., Camden. Interment at Arlington Cemetery.
Mrs. Madaline Muchler, 36, wife of Edward Muchler of 926 North 28th Street, died. Funeral Monday at 36th Street and Westfield Avenue. Burial in Arlington Cemetery.

William H. Lewellen, 82, superintendent of the General Chemical Co. for 15 years and a 54-year employee of the firm's predecessor, died at his home, 41 North Thirty-sixth Street. One of Camden's oldest residents, he was born in Medford and worked in Camden's chemical industry since youth.

Mrs. Mary Jane Gill, 80, of 138 North Thirty-sixth Street, fractured a wrist and sprained a shoulder in a fall downstairs and was taken to Cooper Hospital.
Russell Horner, 14, son of Camden police sergeant William Horner, drowned in the Delaware off the old Red Mill at Pea Shore. His body was recovered the following morning after an all-night search by police and friends of the family.
