2 HOMES DAMAGED SLIGHTLY BY FIRES
A fire in the basement of the home of Percy DeRoche, 2937 Berkley street, yesterday caused slight damage. It was extinguished by firemen under the direction of Capt. Daniel Smith, of Engine Co. 9, Twenty-seventh and Federal streets, and Engine Co. No. 11, Twenty-seventh street and Hayes avenue. Chief William Harring, after an inspection, said that the blaze was caused by a defective water back.
Slight damage was caused by a fire in the home of Etta Adams, 819 Locust street, where firemen said an oil stove had been placed too close to a couch and ignited it. The blaze was extinguished before firemen arrived in response to an alarm.
