BANDIT GUN FOUND
Sawed-Off Weapon Discovered by Workman on Sewer at Second and Federal Streets
A double-barreled sawed-off shotgun, loaded with two shells, was found in a sewer at Second and Federal streets today.
The weapon was dug out of the thick mud in the bottom of the drain by a highway department worker who had been cleaning the sewer.
It was turned over to Detective Robert Ashenfelter, who attempted to identify it as one of several guns stolen several months ago from the William Stein hardware store, 313 Federal street.
Ashenfelter also expressed a belief the weapon may have been one used by bandits who held up the saloon of Freeholder Leonard Brehm at Front street and Kaighn avenue. He bases his opinion on the fact the thugs after the robbery had been chased north on Second street and lost near Federal.
