BOY STEALING RIDE KILLED AS HE DROPS IN FRONT OF AUTO
Chums Get Off Wagon Going Against Traffic Light on Baird Boulevard
DRIVER HELD FOR COURT
Six-year-old Benamin Baldyga, 100 South Twenty-fourth street, hooped one ride too many. He is dead.
Witnesses said he dropped from the back of a wagon at Baird boulevard and Marlton avenue, directly in front of a slowly-moving automobile driven by Charles W. Daily, 41, of 111 West Central avenue, Moorestown, last night.
Francis J. Denver, of Brightwood, N. J., driving behind Daily told Detective William Boettcher that Daily passed him at a slow speed and was crossing Marlton avenue on a green traffic light when two boys dropped from the rear of a wagon crossing the boulevard against the lights.
One ran along with the wagon but Benamin. Denver told police stepped right into the right fender of Daily's car and was crushed to the street. Daily stopped the car before the rear wheel had passed over the boy's body, and the two motorists hurriedly took him to West Jersey Homeopathic Hospital.
He was dead of a fractured skull.
Coroner George D. Morgan opened inquiry into the fatality after Police Judge Pancoast held Daily in $1000 bail for grand jury action on an automobile manslaughter charge.
