River Avenue, more popularly known as River Road, runs north from Federal Street to the Camden city limits and became a Camden thoroughfare in 1899, when the town of Stockton was united with the city. It is the main artery of Cramer Hill and the location of many stores and small businesses.
John C. Voll Jr. (1900-1979) was born in Camden and served the Camden Fire Department for 40 years, entering the department on January 15, 1925 and retiring on December 1, 1965. He lived his later years at 2737 Garfield Avenue in the Cramer Hill section of Camden.
Joseph Xavier Voll (1925–1945) of Camden, NJ served as a Fireman First Class in the United States Navy and was one of the original crew of the USS Caswell (AKA-72). He was killed in an accident at Riverton, New Jersey on January 12, 1945, less than a week short of his 20th birthday, and is buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, NJ.
William E. "Pud" Jaeckel (1888–1961) joined the Camden Fire Department in 1920 and served over thirty years with Engine Company 9 at North 27th and Federal Streets in East Camden, retiring on pension in January 1951.
Russell J. Anderson (1897–1958) served with the Camden Fire Department for over 27 years, from December 1930 until his death in June 1958, assigned to Ladder Company 1 and later the Electrical Bureau.
Camden Fire Department Battalion Chief who served the City of Camden for 38 years, rising from firefighter to battalion chief; a 1957 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.
John Louis Wible (1885–1954) was a lifelong Camden resident and East Camden Republican leader — the first president of the East End Republican League and a county committeeman, active in Red Cross and Salvation Army campaigns.
Clay Wolf Reesman Jr. (c. 1884–1949) served as Camden City Commissioner (1927–1935) and Camden City Clerk (1936–1949), and chaired the Camden County Republican Committee.
Burkhardt Leodegar Buenzle (1857–1931), a Swiss immigrant who settled at 1144 North 24th Street in the Cramer Hill section of Camden, was active in the German-American community of the former Stockton borough in the late 19th century.
Howard Lambert Gick (1895–1968) joined the Camden Fire Department in 1923, served until his retirement as District Chief in 1956, and later worked as Fire Inspector at Garden State Racetrack.
Ensign Hilding Iver Wahl of the U.S. Navy, USS Abner Read DD-526, was mortally wounded on August 18, 1943 when his destroyer struck a mine off Kiska in the Aleutian Islands and died of his injuries on August 28, 1943. He had lived at 1140 North 24th Street in Camden and is buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, New Jersey.
Charles H. Truitt (1859-1936) was a Camden native who worked 53 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a tugboat fireman and ferry engineer on the Delaware River before retiring in 1929.
Harry E. Harker of Blackwood, NJ served as a Private in Company C, 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division. He was killed April 20, 1944 during the defense of the Anzio beachhead in Italy and is buried at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, NJ.
Allen Palmer was born on April 20, 1891, in the Ellisburg section of Delaware Township (present-day Cherry Hill), New Jersey, to John and Ida Palmer. By 1900, the family had moved to 26 North 21st Street in East Camden.
Erie Street in North Camden runs from Beach Avenue to 9th Street, crossing Delaware Avenue, Point, Front, Segal, and the numbered streets 2nd through 9th.
Clare Street is a one-block thoroughfare in South Camden, running from Pine Street to Division Street. Originally called Pine Avenue, it was renamed Clare Street between 1878 and 1890, then later renamed Jesthroe Hunt Sr. Lane in honor of a Camden firefighter who passed away in 2005.
24th Street, originally designated Union Street, runs from the former Pavonia section through Cramer Hill and East Camden, extending from Harrison Avenue to Marlton Avenue. It is North 24th Street above Federal Street and South 24th Street below.
Twenty-First Street runs through Cramer Hill and into East Camden, extending from Harrison Avenue to Federal Street, established by the 1887–1888 Camden City Directory.
Nineteenth Street runs from the Pavonia railroad switching yards across River Avenue north to Harrison Avenue in the Cramer Hill section of Camden, New Jersey.
Seventeenth Street runs through two separate sections of Camden: North 17th Street extends from Harrison Avenue to River Avenue through the Cramer Hill neighborhood, while South 17th Street runs from Federal Street southward across Carman Street to Admiral Wilson Boulevard in East Camden.
Arthur Avenue, named after President Chester A. Arthur, is located in the Cramer Hill neighborhood of Camden. It runs from 24th Street eastward to 29th Street and Von Nieda Park, passing along the south side of Veterans Memorial Park.
