The 24 civilian employes who make up the city’s communications bureau have been divided into two groups, both responsible to Col. Edwin A. Bedell, acting director of public safety.

The 18 civilians whose duties are connected with police and fire communications will come under immediate jurisdiction of Bedell, according to the directive issued today, with temporary supervision from the officer in charge of each of the three shifts.

The six civilian employes, who are concerned with the maintenance and repair of police and fire communication systems, including traffic lights, are placed under supervision of the electrical bureau chief and will be located at 5th and Arch sts.

Michael Speno is currently in charge of this division during the illness of Pat Sullivan, scheduled to retire on July 1
