Firemen 'Visit' Fireman's Home To Battle Fire A fireman returned from an errand this morning to find many of his colleagues at his home at 2924 Royden st. Members of Engine Co. 9, of which Harry Mailahn is assigned; Engine Co. 11 and Truck Co. 3, had been called a short time before to put out a fire in the Mailahn kitchen. Mailahn went off duty at 8 a.m., returned home and then left to go on an errand. His wife, Evelyn, and their youngest child, Sandra, 2, left the house to visit a neighbor. A passerby saw smoke coming from the house and called firemen. Firemen, under Acting District Fire Chief Leonard Oshusher, had to don masks to get into the house. Oshusher said the fire apparently began in a kitchen chair, damaging a portion of the kitchen and sending smoke throughout the house. Two other children were at school. The fire was under control when Mailahn came home.
