John J. Toal
John J. Toal was born in Pennsylvania on October 28, 1902. He joined the Camden Police Department on May 8, 1928 and was still serving as late as 1947.
When the 1930 Census was taken, John Toal was living with his wife Mary at 1115 North 31st Street in the Cramer Hill section of Camden. By 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Toal had moved to 902 North 23rd Street. By 1956 he had moved to Pine Hill NJ, where he resided through at least the fall of 1959.
It appears that John J. and Mary Toal moved to Broward County FL in their later years. John J. Toal passed away on August 5, 1971. Mary Toal joined him in July of 1973.

31st Street
31st Street spans from the Delaware River through Cramer Hill and East Camden, with no addresses outside Cramer Hill since the early 1920s. It is North 31st Street above Federal and South 31st below.
28th Street
28th Street runs from the Delaware River south, across River Road to the Pavonia railroad switching yard, then to Westfield Avenue, Federal Street and Washington Street. It is North 28th Street above Federal and South 28th below.
23rd Street
23rd Street originates in the former Pavonia section — now Cramer Hill — and extends south to Federal Street in East Camden, noted in the 1887–1888 Camden City Directory. The James G. Blaine School stood at the southeast corner of 23rd Street and Wayne Avenue.
Bed Sheet Rips to Fail Attempt at Suicide
John Williams, 82, of 860 North 28th Street, allegedly attempted suicide in August 1936 by tying a bed sheet about his neck and dropping from a second-story window. The sheet ripped and he fell to the ground, and was treated at Cooper Hospital.
