Hale Street

1906 Sanborn Map excerpt, showing Hale Street, Railroad Avenue, Master Street, and Central Avenue. The houses that stood on Hale Street had not been built yet.

Hale Street, which stretched from Central Avenue to Ferry Avenue in a north-south direction, was situated west of the present-day railroad tracks. Its presence in Camden City Directories dates back to 1895.

Initially, four residences lined Hale Street, numbered 1701, 1703, 1705, and 1707. Sometime between 1913 and 1920, these houses underwent renumbering, becoming 1800, 1802, 1804, and 1806 respectively. Remarkably, these homes remained intact until 1962, with at least two, 1802 and 1806, still being inhabited in 1969.

However, in the 1970s, all the dwellings on Hale Street, along with the street itself, were razed to make room for the construction of the I-676 North-South Freeway.
