John Joseph O'Neil (1909-1982) was born in Camden and grew up on North 22nd Street in East Camden. Appointed to the Camden Fire Department on July 27, 1938, he served 30 years - taking time away during World War II to serve in the United States Coast Guard - was promoted to District Chief on April 1, 1961, and retired on pension on November 1, 1968.
William E. "Pud" Jaeckel (1888–1961) joined the Camden Fire Department in 1920 and served over thirty years with Engine Company 9 at North 27th and Federal Streets in East Camden, retiring on pension in January 1951.

Joseph Leff, 74, of 1605 Park Boulevard, founder of the Maxwell Cloak Co. at 502 Liberty Street, died at his home. He was survived by his wife, Anna, three sons and eight grandchildren.
Burglars broke into three Camden businesses, including the 705 Bar on Chestnut Street and Paramount Billiards at 16 S. Broadway, and three Pennsauken homes over a December 1957 weekend, netting nearly $600; two men were held for breaking into Martini's Service Station at 4th and Main streets.
