John C. Voll Jr. (1900-1979) was born in Camden and served the Camden Fire Department for 40 years, entering the department on January 15, 1925 and retiring on December 1, 1965. He lived his later years at 2737 Garfield Avenue in the Cramer Hill section of Camden.
Charles H. Truitt (1859-1936) was a Camden native who worked 53 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a tugboat fireman and ferry engineer on the Delaware River before retiring in 1929.
Thirty-Sixth Street runs from the Delaware River south, across River Road, to Federal Street, and forms Camden's northern border with Pennsauken Township at intervals along its length. It became part of Camden when Stockton Township was annexed in 1899, and had been known in Pennsauken as Cove Avenue into the 1890s.
Mrs. Fannie May, 72, of 1223 North 21st Street was critically injured when her car skidded into a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train at River Avenue and Federal Street; she died that afternoon.
Mrs. George Beitzel of 124 North 32nd Street shot her husband, a Pennsylvania Railroad policeman, in the arm and fired at their 15-year-old son, who ducked and escaped. Judge Benjamin Dzick refused her guilty plea and held her for the grand jury.
Funeral services for Charles H. Valentine, 67, for 42 years an engineer on Pennsylvania Railroad ferryboats, held at 319 North 38th Street. He was survived by his widow Martha A. Valentine and three sons. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
