STORE, THREE HOMES ENTERED BY THIEVES Robbers Get Cash in East Camden Market; Jewelry Taken at Residence Thieves looted an East Camden chain store and three North Camden residences of more than $400 in cash and jewelry worth nearly $500 during the night. Gaining entrance into a vacant house at 2703 Westfield avenue, the thieves chopped a hole through the plaster-wall to reach the Atlantic and Pacific store at Twenty-seventh street and Westfield avenue. The loot consisted of $218.52 in cash hidden on a shelf behind some groceries. The robbery was discovered by the store manager, Robert McKenna, who reported it to the police. The thieves had worked quietly, shielded from sight of motorists by a closet in which the hole was cut. The home of John H. Kramer, 525 North Fourth street, was robbed last night during the absence of the family. Thieves jimmied a side window and gained entrance. A wallet containing $200, which was left in a pair of trousers, was stolen, along with a diamond ring valued at $125 and a gold watch and chain valued at $90. Jewelry and silk hosiery valued at $250 was stolen last night from the home of Samuel J. Edwards, Tenth Ward Republican leader, 539 State street, during the absence of the family. The theft was discovered by Mrs. Edwards when she returned with her husband and daughter. Every drawer in the house was pulled out and the contents dumped on the floor. The thieves overlooked some family heirlooms, a small wrist watch and all the silverware. They forced a rear window and broke open a door to the kitchen. Detectives believe the intruders were frightened away. Two pairs of silk stockings were found near the kitchen door. Neighbors reported seeing a suspicious character walking past the Edwards home. When Mrs. Grace Warner returned to her home at 203 State street yesterday afternoon she discovered that thieves had entered by jimmying a rear window. A portable electric sewing machine was missing. Detective Frank Truax was assigned to the case and declared today that he believed that somebody knowing where the machine was located in the Warner home was the guilty party. Three Held in Theft Charged with theft at 462 Berkley street, three boys were being held by police today. They gave their names as William Eldridge, 18 years old, of 819 Locust street; Sherman Draper, 19 years old, of 221 Benson street, and Omry Perry, 19 years old, of 902 Walnut street. With two others, they were found in the house, the property of William Leonard, 62 South New York avenue, Atlantic City, by members of the First District patrol crew. After questioning the boys, two were released. Police did not divulge their names. The youths in custody are said by police to have admitted the theft of the pipe. All denied damaging the house, as claimed by Leonard, detectives said today.
