Wible Seeks Post Held by 'Cy' Harris Runs on Baird Ticket for County Committee From 12th Ward John L. Wible, of 135 North Twenty-fifth street, is a candidate for election as the Republican county committeeman, representing the Twelfth ward, at the primary next Tuesday. Wible seeks to succeed Carlton M. "Cy" Harris, who is a candidate for election to an eighth term as ward committeeman. Wible has the backing of former U. S. Senator David Baird, Jr., with the designation "Regular Republican" opposite his name on the primary ballot. Harris, on the other hand, has the support of the Woodruff-Verga "New Deal Republican" faction. Reesman Lieutenant Harris, who is confidential secretary of Commissioner Clay W. Reesman and his political lieutenant, has held city jobs for several years. At one time he was a deputy city commissioner, previously he was superintendent of city parks, a post that was abolished. Before that time he was a foreman in the highway department, having charge of the collection of ashes and streets in East Camden. The fight which has been under way between the two factions of the Republican party in the ward for the committeeman post has been very active. Reesman, who is chairman of the Republican County Committee and a former secretary of State Senator Albert S. Woodruff, being Woodruff's political lieutenant in the ward, is supporting Harris for re-election. Bennett for Wible City Commissioner Harold W. Bennett, who, as does Reesman, lives in the Eighth precinct of the ward, in working for Wible. The battle has narrowed down to a fight for ward control of the party. Bennett is chairman of the Baird-Baker publicity committee. Wible, who is not employed by the city, has lived in the Twelfth ward for the last 21 years. During that time he has been active in Republican politics, civic and welfare affairs. He has been associated with the Red Cross and Salvation Army campaigns in the ward, and has taken a wide and active interest in charitable and welfare work there. Wible, who is 49, was born in Camden at 517 Arch street, the Second ward, and was educated in the public schools of the city. He was the first president of the East End Republican League of the Twelfth ward, which has its headquarters at 300 North Twenty-seventh street, holding that office for three years. For the last nine years he has been a member of the board of trustees of that organization, being the chairman at present. It is the only Republican club in the ward. He is a member of the Artisans and the Ottawa Tribe of Red Men. Eleven years ago, he was a member of the county committee.
