CIVIL SERVICE OKs 77 IN POLICE TEST FOR CAMDEN CITY
Seventy-seven applicants passed the examinations for patrolman in the Camden police department, the state civil service announced today. A total of 235 men took the tests May 6.
The top three men, all disabled war veterans, are Roy C. Newkirk Jr., 2118 Berwick street; Ervin F. Ray, 816 North Thirty-fourth street, and Harry J. Janice, 516 Bailey street.
Veterans, although granted no points for military service, go to the top of the list according to their earned average and all disabled veterans go ahead of them in order of earned average, civil service said.
Start at $2400
This placement preference over non-veterans is in accordance with state statute. Patrolmen start at $2400 and are raised to $3160 in four years.
Among the successful candidates are several sons and brothers of Camden police officers.
Roy R. Moffa, 216 Morse street, who placed ninth is a brother of Patrolmen John and Anthony Moffa; Edward J. Jaskolski, 2002 Arlington street, 22 on the list, is a brother of Sgt. Anthony Skolski; William J. Stibi, 639 North Sixth street, 31, is a son of Patrolman Stibi; Edward J. Brendlinger, 560 Auburn street, number 10, is the son of Camden County park patrolman Edward Brendlinger, and John W. Troutman, 759 Bella place, is the brother of Patrolmen William and Edward Troutman.
John T. Garrity Jr., 2515 Morgan boulevard, who placed 67, is the son of former Capt. John Garrity. Young Garrity has been recalled to service with the Marines.
