Child Dies From Burns From terrible burns received on April 12, Susanna Mary Tomko, aged 4 years, of 309 Atlantic avenue, died in the Homeopathic Hospital in Camden yesterday. The little one received her injuries as a result of playing with matches during the temporary absence of members of her family.

The body of Samuel Harding, of No. 313 Atlantic avenue, Camden, was found yesterday morning hanging lifeless in his stable at the rear of the house. It is thought his death was the result of melancholy at the recent loss of his thirteen-year old daughter. He was about forty-five years of age, and leaves a wife and four children.

2 WOMEN GRANTED DECREES OF DIVORCE Two women who said they were forced to leave their husbands won divorce recommendations from Advisory Master William B. Knight yesterday. Mrs. Mary Joslin, 1890 Mulford street, said that after “15 or 20 preliminary separations,” her husband, Felix, ordered her and their son out of their home in July, 1933, because she refused to go with him to Sea Isle City “and live in a tent on the beach for the July 4 holiday.” Mrs. Joslin said she was married in July, 1907, and that her husband started quarreling with her a few months after their marriage. She testified her husband ordered their daughter, Mrs. Catherine Shaw of Camden, out of their home in 1927. Joslin, whose address was given as 358 Atlantic avenue, had filed suit for divorce against his wife, alleging desertion. Mrs. Joslin filed a countersuit. Later Joslin dropped his suit.

In default of $500 bail Joseph Polnick, of 1180 Sycamore street, was committed to the county jail in Camden yesterday by Justice Thompson on a charge of atrocious assault and battery on Tony Romanio, of 309 Atlantic avenue. It is alleged that the defendant struck Romanio over the head with a crowbar and that while the complainant lay unconscious Polnick bit a piece out of his cheek.

Ellis, secured $3000 bail and was released. * H. S. Tatem, of 279 Sycamore street, had his bicycle stolen while in a Broadway store yesterday. AUTOIST LOSES LICENSE Ocean City, July 28.—Walter Lusson, 28, 614 Atlantic avenue, this city, was fined $25 and had his license revoked by Police Judge John Roberts today on charges of reckless driving and failing to heed police whistles. Mrs. Martha Karajwis, of 816 Atlantic avenue, Camden, who was attacked and beaten and thrown down a railroad embankment near Ferry avenue and Jackson street, Camden, Friday night, was reported cut of danger by Cooper Hospital physicians. Bail has not yet been fixed for her alleged assailant, Joseph Bradzohn, of Third and Emerald streets.

MICHAEL ZAWOJSKI Michael Zawojski, 51, died in his home, 916 Atlantic avenue, Saturday. A resident of Camden 44 years, he was employed by the Springfield Coated Paper Co. 15 years as a machine operator. He was a member of the Association of Ukrainian Catholics in America, Local 52. Surviving are his widow, Anna; a son, Michael Jr., and a daughter, Catherine, at home. Requiem high Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a. m. in St. Michael's Ukrainian R. C. Church, Seventh and Florence streets. Relatives and friends will meet at 9 a. m. in the residence, where friends may call Tuesday night. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery under the direction of Stanley Ciechanowski & Son, Camden funeral directors.

Charged With Assault Joseph Kowalski, of 2727 Pierce avenue, charged with disorderly conduct, and Joseph Gray, of 941 Atlantic avenue, charged with assault and battery on Harold Albord, of 2717 Harrison avenue, were arrested last night by Motorcycle Policeman Kauffman, of the Third District, on complaint of Albord. Both men were sent to the City Hall for a hearing before Judge Cleary.

MRS. ZOPHIA ANYZEK Funeral services for Mrs. Zophia Anyzek, a Camden resident for more than 40 years, will be held at 9 a. m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's R. C. Church, Tenth and Mechanic streets. Mrs. Anyzek, a native of Poland, died Friday. She is survived by her husband, Stanley, of 1013 Atlantic avenue, six sons and two daughters. They are Edward, Joseph, Benjamin, Steven and Victor, of Camden, Alfred, who is stationed in Annapolis with the Navy; Mrs. Stella Spada and Mrs. Adele Bodgan, of Camden. A sister, Mrs. Justine Kmiec, is also a Camden resident, while another sister, Mrs. Mary Toton, lives in Poland. Mrs. Anyzek was a member of the Rosary Society at the church, and of Grove 40 of the Woodmen's Circle. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery, Chews Landing. Friends may call at the residence Tuesday evening.

HONESTY COSTS DRIVER AN ADDITIONAL 65 CENTS Savadore Agut, 24, of 1168 Atlantic avenue, Camden, realizes that it does not always pay to be honest. Agut, arrested Thursday night by Policeman Reese for driving without lights or a license, left $25 with the Pennsauken township police as security for his appearance for a hearing today. The fine for having no license is $25. To this it was necessary for Recorder George Diehl to add the costs of 65 cents, which would still be jingling in Agut's pockets had he been less conscientious. In the recorder's court this morning there also appeared L. P. Patten, of 324 West Twenty-third street, New York, who was fined $3.65 after being arrested by Policeman Odwell for speeding.

An attractive Camden girl was "kidnaped" today, on the eve of her wedding, from her home, 1247 Atlantic avenue. Following a city-wide search, the bride-to-be was discovered in the office of George W. Johnson, building inspector. An investigation into the circumstances concerning the "kidnaping" was started immediately by Lewis Stehr, police inspector, to determine the parties "responsible." While the inquiry was under way, the bride-to-be was ushered into the city commission chamber. There she faced Jack Weinberg, of the city assessor's staff, and a host of other city employes. Her entrance was heralded by blasts from a trumpet. Girls from various offices, meanwhile, scattered to various corners of the chamber, where were hidden a large number of mysterious packages. At this point there entered Joseph J. Roszkowiak, 30 years old, a city assessor's clerk, of 910 Mechanic street. He was instructed by Weinberg to seat himself beside the bride-to-be, Miss Genevieve Chudzinski, 22 years old. 1247 Atlantic avenue. As both smiled, Weinberg called the "meeting" to order. Roszkowiak and the girl looked on in amazement. Then the mysterious packages were taken to the commissioners' table, before which the couple sat. The packages were opened. There were pots and pans, clothes pins, dishes, rolling pins, rattles and dish rags. And in the midst of the packages was one from attaches of the city assessor's office, a chest of silver. These were presented. The couple began to speak, when a shot rang out. They turned, but the city employes laughed. It was a cameraman taking a flashlight photo. Roszkowiak and Miss Chudzinski were given the shower after the City Hall offices closed at noon. They will become bride and groom tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Tenth and Mechanic streets. The couple met last July 10 when the bride-to-be's brother, Frank Chudzinski, drowned while on a picnic at Sylvan Lake, Burlington county.

MRS. YETTA SPIGLER Services for Mrs. Yetta Spigler, 78, of 1310 Atlantic ave., who died Saturday at the Laurelview Nursing Home, Mt. Laurel, were Sunday at the Berschler Funeral Home, Pennsauken. M. as Flames Burst From Smouldering Ruins Fire Climaxes Troubles of Kaighn Point Widow Yesterday's disastrous fire was the climax to a series of tragedies which have visited Mrs. Margaret Dolson, of 1226 Knight street, during the last five months. Her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Craig, 73, died about five months ago. A short time later, Mrs. Dolson's husband, Robert, died, leaving her with three sons and a nephew. After that, a small fire broke out in her home and damaged some furniture. Because of some difficulty with the insurance company over collecting money for damage, she allowed her fire insurance on her furniture to lapse and thus was fully unprotected when— Yesterday the Kaighn's Point fire razed the house, which she rented, and all of her personal effects were destroyed, leaving her with nothing. Through the kindness of friends, she and her brood have shelter and food today. Camden's most devastating conflagration in 18 years swept over an entire city block at Kaighn Point yesterday afternoon and left in its blackened wake damage unofficially estimated at $300,000. Again at 4 a.m. today, fire broke out in the still smouldering ruins. A fire company from Sixth street and Kaighn avenue responded to the alarm and promptly extinguished the new blaze, leaving a guard there to immediately sound an alarm at any sign of another outbreak. Yesterday's hungry flames, fanned by a tricky, high wind, took the following toll: Seven homes at Nos. 1218, 1226, 1228, 1230 and 1232 Knight street, and Nos. 1208 and 1210 South Front street. Twenty-three persons, including eight children, eight women and seven men, were left homeless. Six persons were overcome by smoke or injured by flying debris. Three warehouses, an office building and a large shed owned by the C. B. Coles and Sons Lumber Company on the east side of Front street at Mechanic, were destroyed or damaged. The factory and warehouses on the west side of front street were untouched by the flames and were in operation today. Eight automobile were completely destroyed and at least five others damaged. A large garage housing a motorboat at 1215 Knight street, owned by George Tucker, was razed. The stables of Charles Voll at 1216 Knight street were destroyed after 15 horses had been led to safety. Voll, a produce dealer at Second and Kaighn, also owned one of the houses destroyed and two automobile which were demolished. Area Affected The area affected by the fire was bounded by Kaighn avenue, Front, Second and Mechanic streets. However, the fire wreaked the worst damage on Front and Knights streets. Knight is a small street running south from Kaighn to Mechanic, parallel to Front and Second streets. Not since the fire which destroyed the same lumber yard and the old Kaighn's Point ferry on Jan. 3, 1915, has the city experienced such a destructive fire. Scarcely had smoke been sighted an an alarm sounded, then the flames were racing through the lumber yard. A shifting wind 23 Made Homeless in $300,000 Fire (Continued from Page One) sent the fire scurrying in several directions so quickly that tenants of the houses which caught fire had very little opportunity to save any of their household effects. A general alarm was sounded for the first time in years, bringing to the scene every available piece of fire apparatus, while Philadelphia fire boats stood by to render aid should the flames spread to the new $3,000,000 Reading Terminal less than a half block away. Today, firemen were endeavoring to determine the origin of the fire, but the care of the homeless was the city's major problem. Those left without homes and even a change of clothing were sheltered by neighbors or relatives last night, but Dr. A. L. Stone, city relief administrator, was planning to give aid to them today. One of the homeless women, Mrs. Marion Richards, of 1218 Knight street, went to Dr. Stone for aid at 10 a. m. today. As she was walking through the first floor at City Hall, she collapsed. Nurses from Dr. Stone's offices revived her. Ruins Searched by Homeless Several of those whose homes were razed were searching in the ruins today for some of their valuables. They and firemen were the only ones permitted in the stricken area, which police had roped off. Additional patrolmen were on duty to prevent scavengers from robbing the debris of any valuables that may have been buried there. Henry C. Coles, president of the lumber company, stated that his firm's property was damaged to the extent of about $200,000. The entire lumber company property on the east side of Front street was either destroyed or made untenable by fire and water. However, he said the factory was in operation today, and as no trucks were damaged, the firm was conducting its usual business. A horse known throughout the neighborhood as "Old Bob," was burned to death in the lumber yard. Of the houses burned, Voll owned the 1218 Knight street property; the Reading Railroad owned the house at 1226 Knight street, while the others were owned by John Bircher, of Bellmawr. In addition to the places actually damaged, many other properties were in danger from ever-shifting winds and virtual clouds of sparks. Windows on other properties cracked from the heat, and streams of water were played on properties across the street from the burning area. 40 Lines of Hose Chief John H. Lennox called every fire company and every fireman on duty. Every available policeman was called to handle the thousands of spectators. Civilians aided the firemen. Employes of the lumber plant manned hose and the company's turbines churned tons of water into the blaze. At one time the fire companies were pouring water from 40 lines of hose. Water Chief James H. Long and his assistant, Harry Hertline, responded to the fire alarms and found plenty of water. The companies were pumping from 20-inch high pressure mains, with auxiliary wells on Ferry avenue and on Kaighn avenue. Intense heat kept firemen a half a square from the blaze at times. They slowly struggled through blinding and suffocating smoke and when the blaze was under control two hours after it was discovered the firemen had managed to confine it to a city block. Woman Discovers It The first alarm was at 3 p. m., shortly after Mrs. Joseph Novack, whose husband is the proprietor of a cafe at 1208 South Front street, ran into the street, screaming "Fire!" E. H. Stewart, general secretary of the Atlantic City Railroad Y. M. C. A., across the street at Front and Atlantic avenue, sent in the first alarm and later rescued two women. Stewart said the wind was blowing from the east at the time and the Y. M. C. A., the planing mills of the Coles Company and the Camden Terminal Storage Company's seven-story warehouse, at Front and Mechanic streets, were in danger. But the wind suddenly shifted from east to west and a light breeze from the river carried the flames toward a row of five frame houses on Knight street, between Front and Second. These two-story houses were enveloped in flames in a few minutes. So fast did the fire travel that little was saved. One family was absent, but the four others fled for their lives. Clowns Save Cripple Several members of the Camden Clown Club, a veteran New Year shooters' organization, ran to the home of James Shay, 1228 Knight street, and one of them, Albert George, carried Shay's invalid stepdaughter, Alice Williams, 25, from the blazing house. The girl, an infantile paralysis victim, was sitting helpless in a wheel chair when the flames ignited the home. With her mother, Mrs. Alice Shay, and stepbrother, William Shay, 14, she watched the flames crumble the home in which they had lived 20 years. Other members of the clown club—Stanley Berthelot, Henry Small and James Rice—carried brand new furniture of William Haines, 1232 Knight street, to safety. Stewart carried two aged sisters, Mrs. Anna Parker and Mrs. Mary Numbers, from their blazing home at 1210 South Front street, next to the Novack cafe. Twelve automobiles on a parking lot of Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Numbers on the south side of their home were either destroyed or damaged. Civilians were able to get six of them to safety after they had been partially damaged. The others were buried as walls collapsed. Crumbling walls endangered 30 firemen on Front street at 5 p. m. About that time a ladder against a Coles garage slipped and Fireman William Hopkins, 39, of 730 Cedar street, attached to Engine Company No. 2, was thrown to the sidewalk. He suffered sprained ankles and was removed to Cooper Hospital. Felix Benzyn, 33, of 926 Howe street, attached to Company No. 7, suffered burns of the face and hands and was taken to West Jersey Homeopathic Hospital. First Aid Crews Sent Dennis Block, 3, of 1123 South Second street, suffered burns of the right arm and left leg when he wandered too near the flames. He was taken to the West Jersey Hospital for treatment. Cooper and West Jersey Hospitals sent ambulances with doctors and nurses who treated several firemen for cuts, burns and minor injuries. All of the city ambulances were on duty. Camden and Philadelphia Second Alarmers served cool drinks to the firemen and police. Several charitable organizations, including Wiley Mission, offered to house those left without homes. Trainman Faints in Fright Fully 20 trainmen were asleep on the second floor of the Y. M. C. A. Building when the fire broke out. Stewart awakened them. C. E. Wells, one of the trainmen, collapsed when he was suddenly awakened to see the conflagration so near. He was revived by doctors from West Jersey Hospital ambulance. Firemen were hampered by the explosion of gasoline tanks of automobiles trapped in the parking yard of Mrs. Parker and her sister. A horse in the lumber company's stable just north of the Novack place perished. The fire was at the main entrance of the $3,000,000 Reading terminal, which for a while was in danger. It was impossible to get vehicles into the ferry house. All cars coming from Philadelphia were forced to park at the entrance until the flames were under control. The railroad kept several locomotives standing by at the terminal to remove coaches if necessary. The company lost several hundred coaches in the 1915 fire.

WITH HIS BANDANA HE HALTED EXPRESS Camden Policeman Stopped Train at Crossing When Horse and Wagon Became Fast on Tracks By waving a bandana handkerchief, Policeman Appley averted what would undoubtedly have been a fatal grade crossing accident at the West Jersey and Seashore Railroad and Atlantic avenue, Camden, yesterday. An express train that had been gaining speed for a run to Atlantic City was stopped within a few feet of the wagon of Smith Moore, which had become mired. At that point repairs are being made, resulting in the crossing being little better than a disused country road. When Moore attempted to drive across, the wheels of the wagon became fastened in the ground and the horse was unable to move. It was at this time that the policeman realized the predicament of Moore. Knowing the express was due at any moment, Appley was in a quandary as to what to do until he thought of his bandana handkerchief. Then, when the locomotive appeared, he waved the bandana frequently. It was seen by the engineer, who brought the train to a stop so suddenly that the passengers were thrown from their seats. After a slight delay Moore succeeded in getting out of the way and the train proceeded.

Wanted by Burlington: Mona Plea Is Changed To Non Vult Anthony Mona, 38, of 4th st. near Atlantic ave., today changed his plea of not guilty to non vult on nine indictments charging him with breaking and entering and larceny, and aiding and abetting larceny. At the same time, County Judge Martino announced, he would recommend that six additional indictments be nolle prossed. The additional indictments charge conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of minors. $50,000 Bail Continued The change of plea was made as Mona was scheduled to go on trial before Judge Martino. Martino set Dec. 19 for sentencing, and continued Mona's bail of $50,000. The high bail was originally set for Mona by County Judge Dzick on Nov. 20, three days after he was arrested by Camden and Pennsauken police in the cellar of a house in the 4000 block of Federal st., Pennsauken. Bench Warrants Issued He was sought at that time on bench warrants issued in Camden and Burlington Counties. The Camden warrant was issued Nov. 7 when Mona failed to appear in court to enter a plea. Another warrant was issued in Burlington County when Mona failed to appear for sentencing. He had been found guilty Oct. 14 by Burlington County Judge Drenk of carrying a concealed deadly weapon April 1 in Maple Shade. At today's proceedings Mona was represented by Louis N. Caggiano, and the state by Assistant Prosecutor Robert B. Johnson.
